Walking along the seafront promenade of Puerto Madryn allows you to enjoy the landscape and, between June and November, to enjoy the whales.
Also known as “La Rambla”, Puerto Madryn has an extensive beach front that stretches from Luis Piedrabuena pier to the monument to the Tehuelche Indian. A pleasant walk that extends for almost 5 kilometers.

Puerto Madryn’s main pier
If you are going to walk along the seafront promenade of Puerto Madryn, one of the obligatory stops is the extensive Luis Piedrabuena pier, which goes into the sea for 500 meters. This is where the cruise ships that stop in the city arrive and leave, and many people go fishing.
It is an excellent panoramic point of the coastal walk of Puerto Madryn, the sea, the whales, and even usually swim under the pier sea lions.
Puerto Madryn has another dock, Almirante Storni, located further north. This dock is related to the commercial and fishing activity of the city.

Puerto Madryn’s seafront promenade beaches
As you walk along the Puerto Madryn coastline, you will find extensive beaches where you can sunbathe or swim in the summer. The most popular beach among young people is Playa Mimosa.
For bathing, keep in mind the high and low tides, as they are very long and the sea moves forward or backward more than 100 meters during the day. Also, since the town is on a closed bay, the water is very cold and often has algae and small living waters (generally harmless) on the shore.
Outside the Puerto Madryn promenade there are other beaches, such as El Doradillo to the north, ideal for whale watching from the shore, and Playa Paraná to the south, perfect for fishing.
Paradors and restaurants on the coastal promenade
During the time you spend walking along the promenade of Puerto Madryn, there are many paradores and restaurants where you can have a drink or a meal. Most of them are located on the beach and have large windows, which allows you to enjoy a drink or a meal with a view of the sea and the beach.
There are different paradores: fast food, waffles and pancakes, seafood and even more elegant restaurants with a different variety of dishes. Each one invites you to relax and enjoy the whole environment.

Monuments on the coastal promenade of Puerto Madryn
There are several monuments to be found along the coastal promenade of Puerto Madryn. If you go from the main pier to the Tehuelche Indian monument you will find the following:

- ARA Villarino Monument, one of the first ships of the Argentine Navy.
- Monument to Don Quixote
- Monument to the Tehuelche Indian, in honor of the first settlers of the Patagonian region
Museums in the coastal promenade of Puerto Madryn
There are small museums located on the coastal promenade of Puerto Madryn.
- Punta Cuevas Disembarkation Museum: relates the disembarkation in the city of the first Welsh settlers at the end of the 18th century in the Punta Cuevas area. The museum has photographs, objects of the settlers, stories and much more. Aside from the tour inside the museum, there is an outside visit to see the historic caves where the Welsh stayed overnight on arrival.
- Municipal Art Museum: small place whose function is to publicize the works of local and regional artists through exhibitions of paintings, photographs and sculptures. The exhibitions are temporary and access to the museum is free of charge.

Panoramic points on the coastal promenade of Puerto Madryn
Although there are many panoramic points where you can stop to take pictures and contemplate the sea, due to its location, both the main pier and the Punta Cuevas area, next to the Teheulche Indian monument, are the two favorite panoramic points.
From Punta Cuevas you can see the entire seafront of Puerto Madyn, the whales in season and the immensity of the sea, since it is located in an elevated area. And you can also take a picture with the small Puerto Madryn sign they have set up in the area.
