With the peculiarity of being located in two different buildings, the Museum of the End of the World operates in the old building of the National Bank at 173 Maipú Street, and in the former Government House at 465 Maipú Street. Currently, these two buildings depend on the Provincial Subsecretariat of Culture and its function is to promote the culture of local artists, scientific research and the preservation of the regional heritage.

Former Banco Nación Headquarters

The old house of the Banco Nación is an emblematic building of Ushuaia built at the beginning of the 20th century. The bank left this headquarters in the 70’s and the Territorial Museum was established here for the protection of the historical, anthropological, paleontological and natural heritage. Later it became the End of the World Museum.

In the first hall of the museum, stands out the prow of the ship Duchess of Albany, which was shipwrecked off the coast at the end of the 19th century. This is the beginning of the exhibitions of objects and contents of the first inhabitants of the area and of the navigators who landed on the Fuegian coasts centuries ago. There are also glass cases through which you can see some stuffed animals that show the fauna of the region. The museum houses the General and Historical Archive, a library with more than five thousand copies.

Old Government House

The old Government House was built between 1890 and 1893. It was also the governor’s residence and the seat of the Legislative Power. Here are exhibited different objects and writings that make a review of the history of Ushuaia.


Opening hours of the End of the World Museum

Opening hours varies according the seasons. In summer, it is open almost all day long, while in winter, it closes quite early. From October to March from Monday to Friday from 10am to 7pm, Saturdays and holidays from 1pm to 7pm. Closed on Sundays.

Guided tours are available at 11 AM and 3.30 PM, although it depends on the season.
