We have visited the city twice and researched places to sleep in Ushuaia extensively. The first time, backpacking and without children, we opted for a hostel. The second time, with children, we opted for a mid-range hotel in the center of the city.
In both cases the experience was very good, the truth is that we have no criticisms about it. There is a lot of kindness from the people who live in Ushuaia and work with tourism, the main source of income of this place.
Downtown Ushuaia is small, if you choose a hotel in this area you will be able to walk to museums, restaurants and places to shop or rent snow equipment in winter.

Is it expensive to sleep in Ushuaia?

Looking for something good, nice and cheap in Ushuaia? In most cases, hosterias are the most economical accommodations in Ushuaia. Here are our recommendations.
The first recommendation is the small inn Mirador del Beagle. It is a little far from the center, so you will have to consider the transfer from the center. The hosts make you feel as if you were in your own home, the treatment and kindness are excellent. It has both double and family rooms, so it is a good option if you want to spend little in Ushuaia, whether you go as a couple or as a family.
Another alternative is the Aonikenk Lodge run by Florencia and Gabriel, its owners. It is located in an elevated location in the center, which allows views of the bay and walking distance to the restaurants and main streets of Ushuaia. The owners are both Ushuaia experts, so they give excellent advice on what to do and where to eat. Although the rooms are not as spacious, the breakfast room has large windows with excellent views.
Rio Ona is another of the options that we recommend where to sleep in Ushuaia cheap. It is a simple and clean inn, located a few meters from the Presidio Museum. Among their services, they offer a complimentary breakfast that includes coffee and croissants. The place is very well heated and has a hot water shower with good pressure for the cold days in the city, which are both in winter and summer.
Are you a young person looking to chat with other travelers? Then the hostels in Ushuaia are the best alternative. There are several scattered throughout the city center, but we highlight two of them.
The one we recommend the most is the Antarctica Hostel. We stayed there on our first foray into Ushuaia traveling on a budget and loved it. Centrally located, very good atmosphere, clean bathrooms, excellent facilities and a common space conducive to meeting other people visiting the city. It even has a place to grill something and a kitchen for common use.
The other option we had considered is the Yaghan Hostel very close to the previous one. We liked the comments I had for the excellent attention and predisposition of the staff to solve doubts and even coordinate excursions with other travelers. Although we did not stay there in the end, it is an excellent alternative and a bit more accessible than the previous hostel.
Three star hotels in Ushuaia
If what you prefer is the location, the Hotel Monaco is a three-star hotel located in the heart of downtown Ushuaia, on San Martin Street, one of the busiest arteries since many restaurants and shops are located here. In addition, it is also close to the waterfront, the End of the World sign and the Presidio museum, so you can walk to all these sites. Its rooms are simple, and some even have views of the city’s harbor. From Ushuaia airport, it is only a 10 minute transfer to the hotel.
Another option to consider is the Hotel Las Lengas also located downtown, but closer to Encerrada Bay and the Ushuaia airport. Its common rooms, where you can have breakfast or relax in the armchairs, have a perfect panoramic view of the bay with the mountains in the background. In winter, the contrast of the snowy landscape with the sea is dreamy. The rooms are more modern than those of the Hotel Monaco.
Finally, we recommend the Albatros Hotel which, although it is a four-star hotel, has a three-star price. We chose this hotel on our second trip to Ushuaia as a family, since the rooms are really big and comfortable, and it is located on the waterfront and in the center of the city. It is the perfect combo to go with children, eat in the nearby restaurants or in the hotel itself and relax in the room until the next day of excursion.

Luxury hotels in Ushuaia that we recommend

In addition to the typical services of a five-star hotel in Ushuaia, such as spa, heated swimming pool and gym, its interior decoration has very elegant touches, in addition to the large windows that allow a view of the majestic landscape that dominates the surroundings. How much does it cost to sleep in this luxury hotel in Ushuaia? The cheapest double room costs about USD 500 a night, but you really won’t regret paying it.
More affordable in price than the previous one, the other luxury hotel we recommend in Ushuaia is Las Hayas. Located on the way up to the Martial Glacier, it also has all the services of the Alarkén Hotel, plus a spectacular outdoor Jacuzzi, ideal for relaxing after an intense day of hiking and trekking. If you are lucky, you can get a double room for about USD 300 per night, although the price usually does not go below USD 350 per night.
The only thing to keep in mind in both five star hotels in Ushuaia is that they are located far from downtown Ushuaia, so you will have to take into account the transportation issue.
